Acadia National Park, Maine USA - Travel Vlog | TRAVELTOBER

Welcome back to another episode of TRAVELTOBER. Today I have another travel vlog for you: Acadia National Park, Maine USA. If you have already read my blog post about the sunrise at Cadillac Mountain, you know it was my absolute favourite experience during our journey through New England last year. 

So now, you can see the stunning sunrise yourself, I catched it with my camera (Yeah me :)). Besides that we explored the Ocean Path at the south end of the island.

➸ Explore the Big Sur National Park, California USA

When you spend some time on Instagram or Pinterest, you have probably come across a picture with the wonderful view like the picture above. 

Did you ever wonder where that picture was taken? The answer is very simple: at the very instagramable Julia Pfeiffer Beach at the Big Sur State Park in the middle of California. The Big Sur is located right at the famous Highway No. 1 in the middle of Cali - THE road to take, when you're off to an road trip through California. 

What else can you explore at the Big Sur? 

Let's talk about the Highway No.1 at first. You're driving right next to the seaside at have the most stunning view at the breath taking colours of the ocean, the cliffs and just the nature. For all the drivers: don't be worry - you're not gonna miss something, there are plenty of lookout points with parking space, where you can enjoy the view, too. 

One gorgeous lookout is right behind the Bixby Creek Bridge. The bridge was built in 1932 and is 79m high. The bridge fits perfectly in the landscape and makes the view even more stunning. ... and of course it's a perfect spot to take breathtaking pictures. 

When you don't just want to be at the cliffs, but also down at the beach, I have a few options for you:

At the Jade Cove you can take a steep trail down to a nice bay. You wonder why the bay is called "Jade Cove"? That's because you can actually find jade down there - BUT unfortunately it is forbidden to take it home. 

At the Andrew Molera State Park you will not only find a lot of different hiking trails, but also sandy beaches which are 4 km long. 

Where to watch a good old sunset? 

Watching the sun saying goodbye is never getting boring, right? We watched a pretty one at the Pfeiffer Beach. The road down the is kind of adventures, but totally worth it. ( I have the feeling that I have a thing for beaches hidden like that :D ) It's not a big beach, but the sand is white and there are a huge rocks in the water. It's a cool vibe down there, so perfect to end the day with a pretty sunset.  

Where to sleep at the Big Sur?

This is also a very simple answer: at the Big Sur Campground & Cabins  - it's a beautiful camping side in the woods, some grounds are located right by the river. A little path will take you to the little "village" and with little I mean little. There are literally one store and a bar.

➸ Beach recommendation in PORTUGAL - Praia da Cordoama 🌊

Hey guys :) How are ya doing?? In the first time in forever i haven't booked or planned a holiday! Because I will graduate within the next months from university I have sooo much stuff to do and there are so many things I cannot plan, because I just don't know how my future will turn out - definitely terrifying, but also exciting!!! 

But just because I don't go on holiday anytime soon, it doesn't mean you will stay at home, too! And I know in many countries the summer break will began very soon - YEAH for that! So, I thought, maybe you need a little beach inspiration. Life is better at the beach, right?! Therefore, I wanna share with you one of my favourite beaches in Portugal: Praia da Cordoama. 

This beauty you will find at the Atlantic coast, 5km away from Vila do Bispo (in the south of Portugal) and only 13km away from Sagres. So when you wanna combine the beach with some culture, like the Fortaleza de Sagres - it's a perfect day trip. 

The beach is a surfers' paradise, so keep your eyes peeled for some hot surfers ;) ... or try surfing yourself, there are many surf schools around! When you're not up to surf, then bring a blanket, a picnic and some other fun stuff to have the perfect beach day (... please don't forget to bring your sunscreen!). And when you're tired of chilling in the sun, you can climb up the cliff to have a beautiful view or even watch the sunset from there! 

The only drawback: you can reach the beach only by car and be prepared, it's an adventurous road with a beautiful outlook! But totally worth it. 

➸ New Video Wednesday: Cape Cod, Massachusetts

Todays Video Wednesday is not only one of my favourite videos so far, it's also about a very cool place: Cape Cod, USA. Famous for gorgeous beaches, the perfect summer getaway, lighthouses, lobsters and a lot more. 
We wandered around Provincetown, got delicious pastries from a Portuguese bakery and discovered a lot of beaches. But the highlight was the beautiful sunset at Chatham beach. There were even a few seals out in the water.

➸ New Video Wednesday: Cannon Mountain, New Hampshire

Welcome back to a new Video Wednesday :) 

Today I have one of my favourite days from our New England trip back in October! We took a tramway up to Cannon Mountain - a really stunning place to see the fall foliage. The trip with the tramway isn't that cheap ( roundtrip: 17$), but totally worth it. More information about the mountain and everything it has to offer, you will find here.

➸ New Video: Road Trip New England

One of the reasons why I am all about our trip to and through New England is that we actually went on a road trip. Road Trips are always so much fun and you see so much more from the country/region you're visiting. And the best thing was we chose a Beetle to be our road companion! What a great car!

➸ AirBnB Recommendation: Portland, Maine

It was my second time staying in an AirBnB. And what can I say? It was gorgeous (like the first time in Porto). I am talking about this little studio in the south of Portland. We were very warm welcomed by our lovely host Olivia. She showed us around, explained everything and gave us very good suggestions what we could do and go in Portland and in the area. 

The Studio has two parts, which is separated by a wall without a door. in the one part you find a very comfortable bed and a desk. In the other part is a kitchen, a dining table, a TV and a sofa ( and of course a bathroom). The apartment is very clean and very thoughtfully furnished. In the kitchen you will even find tea and coffee. You have everything you need, really everything! From a complete kitchen to an iron to a hifi-system. On the writing desk you will find a lot of maps and information about the area and a folder with guide to the studio and Portland. 

I have honestly have nothing bad to say about this place! From the first minute we felt like coming home. You have your privacy and don't even notice that the family is living in the other part of the house. Had I known that this place would be so awesome, we would have booked it for longer. 

Also it's a perfect location in a very quiet neighbor hood. You only need about 6 minutes with the car to the downtown area, 14 minutes to the Two Lights State Park and just a few minutes to the next supermarket.

From the first minute we felt like coming to a cozy home. Had I known that this place would be so awesome, we would have booked it for longer. So if you're ever looking for an Airbnb in Portland, Maine - this is the one! 

➸ How to Road Trip

I’ve done quite a few road trips in my life. Along these trips I collected some cool and some really simple tricks to make your life much easier and avoid unnecessary argues.

Google Maps

 When you have a rental car you have 2 options to save money on the satnav. The first one: you bring your own one, but make your sure the maps you need are on it. The second is very simple, too. Just download the Google Maps app on your phone and turn on the location service. This is even working when you have no internet/Wi-Fi connection. You can’t use the navigation to a certain direction. But you see a blue point, which is showing your current situation and the co-pilot can navigate the driver to the right place. This is how we travelled the whole way through New England.  

Organisation
Make sure you put all the import stuff and things you need a lot in constant places in the car. So you avoid searching for hours for your belongings and the panic that you lost something. Everybody knows where what is and is happy.

The Entertainment

Sometimes the radio has no reception or it’s nothing on, you want to listen to. Therefore, make sure you packed your aux cable and have some cool music or audio books on your phone. (By the way my favourite road trip songs, you find here)

Eating on the go
Pack some plastic cutlery and Tupperware. So you can eat the remains from the day before or cereal on the way and you can spend less money in restaurants. And make sure you have always some snacks and enough to drink with you. Sometimes the next supermarket is longer away than you expected.

Car games
There are so many! We like to guess the towns where cars are from by their plates. In Germany the first 1-3 letters stand for a town where the car is registered. Sometimes you discover cities you never heard of before. Or we list the federal states of the US with their capitals. These little games keep our mind busy and make time flies by in for example a traffic jam.

The route

I love to plan things, especially our holiday trips. So it’s cool, when you know which route you’re going on your road trip, but leave room for some stops in unplanned locations. You can discover cool and unexpected things. Also when you have time take the longer route, not the highway, but the road through little villages or along the coastline with a breath taking view … often road is the longer road the more beautiful road.

➸ Einmal Côte d'Azure und zurück ➸

 
Ach diese olle Prüfungsphase. Man steht früh auf, sitzt den ganzen Tag am Schreibtisch und versucht sich tonnenweise Papier in den Kopf zu hämmern. Zumindest fühlt sich mein Kopf jeden Abend so an, als ich hätte ich das Wort wörtlich getan. Und was gibt es für eine schönere Ablenkung als ab und an in die weite Ferne zu schweifen? Heute hat es mich an die wundervolle Côte d'Azur getrieben und da ich gerade nicht schlafen kann, dachte ich mir "Hej, warum nicht einfach ein Blogpost schreiben!"
So here it is, meine kleine feine Reise an die Côte d'Azur…..

Spontane Trips sind, meiner Erfahrung nach, doch meistens die Besten. Vorletzten Sommer beschlossen eine sehr gute Freundin und ich nach Südfrankreich ans Meer zu fahren. Der Plan entstand ungefähr eine halbe Woche vor Abfahrt, es wurde schnell eingekauft und ein Zelt organisiert.

Freitag Abend ging es dann los. Ich musst noch bis um halb 9 pm arbeiten, danach wurde das Auto gepackt und es ging über Nacht, durch die Schweiz, in den Süden. Wir wechselten uns mit dem Fahren ab, wobei RedBull und Highschool-Musical-Songs (die natürlich in voller Lautstärke geträllert wurden) unsere neuen besten Freunde wurden.

Unser Ziel war der wunderschöne Campingplatz "Camp du domaine" in Bormes les Mimosas, wo wir morgens gegen halb 8 ankamen. Während die anderen Campingplatzbewohner langsam aus ihren Zelten und Wohnwagen krochen, fanden wir den perfekten Platz mit Meerblick.

Ich war 2 Jahre zu vor schon einmal auf dieser Anlage und hatte mich damals schockverliebt! Weil wir für unseren Trip ins Warme und ans Meer wollten, war augenblicklich klar, dort mussten wir hin!

Der Campingplatz ist großflächig in einem Waldstück verteilt. Er hat eine eigene kleine Bucht mit Strandzugang. Durch die Hanglage sind viele Plätze wie kleine Terrassen angelegt und man hat einen wunderschönen Ausblick auf das Meer und die Küste.

Man hat alles was man brauch vor Ort: saubere Toiletten und Duschen, Supermarkt, Tennisplatz, Strom, Restaurants und vieles vieles me(e)hr! Wenn man keine Lust mehr hat am Strand zu faulenzen, lohnt sich auch ein kleiner Fußmarsch ins Dörfchen. Die Bucht entlang kann man es gar nicht verfehlen. Hier gibt es einen Yachthafen, kleine Geschäfte und viele Möglichkeiten gut und günstig zu essen.
Am Preis des Platzes lässt sich auch nichts aussetzen: wir haben für 3 Nächte, 2 Person und ein Auto insgesamt um die 65 Euro bezahlt. Ein super Preis-Leistungsverhältnis, vor allem weil es ein 5 Sterne Campingplatz ist!

Das Wochenende verbachten wir mit Schlafen, Sonnenbaden, Meer genießen und französischen Weißwein trinkend. Daran konnte man sich gewöhnen!

Am Montag Morgen machten wir uns auf den Rückweg. Zum Frühstück wollten wir in Saint Tropez sein und zum frühen Abendessen in Cannes. Gesagt und naja fast getan. Nach dem Zelt, Gartentisch und alles was wir sonst aus unserem Wohnzimmer mitgebracht haben ( ja wir wohnten auch zusammen) ins Auto verladen hatten, mussten wir leider feststellen, dass unser liebstes Fortbewegungsgefährt nicht mehr ansprang. Hupps, wohl zu viel Musik gehört und den Akku aufgeladen - die Batterie war leer. So jetzt erklärt mal einem Franzosen, dass man jemanden braucht, der einem Starthilfe gibt. Mit einer Mischung aus französisch-englischen Kauderwelsch und Armgefuchtel, das keine Flugzeuglotse auf dem Rollfeld besser hätte machen können, halfen uns die lieben Gärtner aus.

Entlang der Küstenstraße düsten wir dann nach St. Tropez - und ja ich muss zugeben wir hörten beim hereinfahren, natürlich auch das passende Lied :) Es wurde gebummelt, gemampft, die Buchten entdeckt und natürlich auch die Yachten bewundert.

 

Den Nachmittag verbrachten wir im nicht weit entfernten Cannes. Erst mal ging es an den Strand, wir wollten uns abkühlen und noch die letzten Sonnenstrahlen genießen, denn wir wussten in Deutschland erwartete uns der Regen. Als der Abend nahte, wollten wir noch ne Runde durch die Stadt drehen. Wir mussten uns ein bisschen beeilen, weil die WM gerade stattfand und Frankreich genau an diesem Abend spielte. Unser Vorhaben nicht in einem feiernden französischen Autokorso festzustecken.
…. Natürlich steckten wir fest :)

Nach einer weiteren nächtlichen Rückfahrt mit einer filmreifen Toiletten-Szene ( wir mussten so dringend aufs Klo, dass wir aus dem Auto stürmten, die Türen sperrangelweit aufließen und aufs Toitoi stürmten - die Brummifahrer drumherum haben sich kaputt gelacht!) kamen wir um 6am wir wieder am schönen Bodensee an. Auto wurde in die Garage gestellt, schnell geduscht und mit einem weiteren Red Bull ging es auch wieder zur Arbeit. Man soll es kaum glauben, aber geschlafen haben wir wirklich erst gegen Mitternacht, nach dem wir (WG typisch) irgendwelchen Unsinn (wie z.B. die Gartenzwerge unseres Hausmeisters versteckt) veranstaltet haben.

Es war der perfekte spontane Kurzurlaub. Auch wenn wir zwei Nächte durchgefahren sind, es hat sich gelohnt! Ich kann diesen Campingplatz jedem nur ans Herz legen! Die Leute sind super nett, man kann auch kleine Bungalows mieten, es ist sauber und hat den Strand direkt vor der Tür. Ich würde sofort wieder hinfahren - vielleicht machen ich das ja auch, irgendjemand Lust auf einen spontanen Roadtrip ;)?
