➸ My little secret Hobby: plane spotting

Freitag, 30. September 2016

Everybody has got a little weird hobby or obsession. Mine? I am all about the planes and the airports. I don’t know where it has come from, since I had been a little kid I was fascinated with these things. Frankfurt Airport with all the busy people, the luggage and the long hall ways to the gates? I was in love and still am.
I remember when we went on a family vacation – we were veeeeery late like always – I ran behind my stepmother and drove her crazy as hell. Why? Because I repeated e v e r y single airport announcement: All passengers booked on flight LH 3647 to Hong Kong … Till today she rolls her eyes when this story comes up.

The paradox? Since 2011 I’ve got fear of flying. This story and how I handle it I will tell you sometime else. But I am still fascinated and every time I see an airplane I shout and point: “PLANE”.

If you’re also interested in this kind of stuff (or just curious), here are some helpful websites from the internet.

Flightradar24
Of course this website needs to be on the list. Wanna know if your loved ones arrived somewhere in the world you check it out. OR if you see a plane in the sky and want to know where it’s coming from and where it’s heading to. You learn also about the different types of aircrafts, speed or altitude.

Turbulencesradar
Going on a flight and want to know if there are going to be turbulences? This is your platform!

➸ Hello from Boston

Dear New York,
I have to tell you something: I've kind of cheated on you. Today I fell in love, I fell in love with Boston. But you know, some people say it's possible to have two loves at the same time - and I really think we could make this work. You're the busy one, going with the flow and are always up to date. Boston is more chilled and lives a little bit in the past centuries. You both offer very different things. I really can't stand the charm of this city. It attracts you with the amazing town houses and stunning facades, with the very kind and friendly people, who love their hometown, with a lot of good local food and with the feeling to be at home, even when you're at the other side of the ocean.  I really hope you understand that I couldn't resist.

xxx Steffi

➸ How to survive a long-haul flight

Dienstag, 27. September 2016

Tomorrow I will sit in a plane for about 10 hours, off to Boston (yeah finally!). And again I ask myself the question: what will you do in this time? I like to sleep on a plane, however this doesn’t work every time. So, here are some tips what I do on a long-haul flight.

Talk to your neighbor
I met so many interesting people on long-haul flights. When I headed to Singapore in April I talked to a man who’s living in Hamburg, but is originally from the Lebanon. His life journey was so interesting, that we talked the hours away.

The entertainment system, obviously
Movies, TV series, music and some games. Most airlines have a pretty big collection of their entertainment system. Definitely go and check it out!

Bring your own entertainment system
When you’re bored of the on-board-entertainment, pull out your own one! I like to bring travel board games, books, crossword puzzles or magazines. While finding answers to tricky riddle, you don’t notice that you already pass Iceland.

Something to listen to
Music is always a good idea. But audiobooks are definitely also a good option. On Spotify you will find an excellent repertory of audiobooks. I highly recommend “The Rosie Effect”. At the moment I am totally all about Sherlock Holmes.

Do stuff, you always postpone
You bring your laptop anyway? Perfect, so you can make a backup or sort out your hard disk. Or how about learning the new language or knitting skills you always wanted? A 10 hours something flight is a good start!

And DON’T forget to drink enough water! You will feel so much better during and after that flight. Your skin is very grateful and you adjust a lot faster to the new time zone.

So next time you hear from me, I hopefully gonna be in Boston, Massechusetts :)

➸ Where to eat in Constance

where to eat in Constance - restaurant guide

Oh Constance! It’s a beautiful place to be and a very good place to eat! I have lived here for about 4 years and every time I return, I mostly end up at my favourite places to stuff my stomach with delicious food. What I really love about this town is that you will not find a Starbucks or any other franchise coffee place. There are a lot of cool independent places you can check out. My favourites below are just a few of many options.

Holly’s
This is probably my favourite restaurant in town. My beloved ex-roomie and me were all over it right from the beginning (maybe because it was just across the street from our apartment). The food is delicious: breakfast or dinner, I could eat it all and let me tell you, I am a very picky eater! Also, the ambience is unique. You have a stunning view at the “Seerhein” a part of the Lake Constance. The interior is very unique too. You have a collection of different types of furniture, a wall of bricks and you can look into the kitchen through a big window!

Café Zeitlos
The perfect place to have a sneaky breakfast or a big fat brunch on the weekends. In summertime you can sit in the lovely garden surrounded by roses, in wintertime you can snuggle up in the little cosy house. They serve everything from Bircher Müsli to eggs and fruit salad. But make a reservation, it is always completely packed.

Pano
Located directly in the town centre and specialises in bread and coffee – it’s the perfect stop after a shopping afternoon. You can sit outside and watch people walking by or sit inside at an extra-long table.

Anelu Eishandwerk
In Constance you won’t find that many gelato places, but this is a great option! A lovely view of the harbour and a great selection of ice cream types (even some extraordinary ones like basil)

Vogelhaus
Another great place to have a little coffee break. You find this cool place also in town centre.

Chez Leon
This restaurants you will find at the “Fischmarkt”. Like the French name promises, this place is like a bistro in Paris. Okay the view is missing, but you definitely have the flair and the little coffee tables outside.
