Secret hidden garden St.Johanni Nuremberg

I have been living in Nuremberg, Bavaria in Germany for 2 years now. What shall I say, this town and I are not getting along very well. I never felt like I am really at home here, and especially in winter times I feel depressed. And I always tell myself “just one more year, then you will hopefully have finished your bachelor’s degree and can move”. This may be a nice motivation to get my studies done, however not a nice mind set to live with.

For this reason, I decided to force myself to go out more and explore the city. Just to sit inside at home is not going to change anything. Maybe when I find some cool new places I will feel a bit more comfortable here. So I thought why not share the places I discover with you? You get a free guide to Nuremberg and I have fun. Win-Win. I wanna call this category: “How to Nuremberg” so you can follow my journey.

Today’s first discovery is about the hidden garden “Hesperidengärten “, in a district called St.Johanni. This baroque garden is located at the backside of the house numbers 43-47, Johannisstraße. You will find some lemon trees, a sundial made of box trees, old statues and a perfect picnic place. You can enter this little oasis through a lovely traditional Bavarian restaurant or on the opposite side through a welcoming gate. It’s a very quiet place, perfect to read a book or have a date. Opening hours are between April and October from 8am to 8pm.

The area St.Johanni is very beautiful itself. You can check out an old cinema, stunning houses and some cool and trendy cafés, like the low cab serving “Soulfood”.
